Covid Isolation Rules

Rules are contradictory:

Isolating when arriving from a country under additional measures
From January 2021, the Welsh Government has issued a list of countries and territories that are subject to additional measures where isolation for 10 days is required along with all members of your household. There are other additional isolation rules that you must follow.

There are no categories of person which are exempt from the 10-day isolation requirement. Everyone travelling from a country or territory under additional measures must isolate on arrival in Wales.

If you stay with family and friends, the people you are staying with (household) will also have to isolate for 10 days, even if they did not travel with you originally.

Support to help you isolate in your own accommodation
The people you're staying with do not need to isolate, unless they travelled with you or you develop the symptoms of coronavirus.

Within your accommodation
The people you're staying with do not need to stay at home, unless they travelled with you. Avoid contact with them and minimise the time you spend in shared spaces, like kitchens, bathrooms and sitting areas.

Support within your own accomodation isn't the same as returning to one's family in the same accommodation but as clear as custard as usual.

Or trawl the legal side and miss things.[/QUOTE]
For that to make sense it needs a legal definition of what self isolating means so it's better to use a site where they have put it in plain english ;) well fairly plain for them

It is defined.. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/1045/pdfs/uksi_20201045_en.pdf

Also the enhanced isolation other household members is only for people travelling from or through banned countries

Looks to me that there is a need to look at another "law" to be able to say that. And of course what a countries current standing is on it as it varies from time to time. My impression is that all now must/should self isolate so the contact with people returning from them applies to all countries.

A lot of the guidance and worse “advice” e.g. offered by police is wrong. The law is really the point you should refer to.

it’s not been put together very well given everything was repealed in the summer and new legislation written.

Apparently 'hotel detention' is about to be unleashed in the UK for those arriving from abroad...

Reports have it at a compulsory £150 a night for 'Costa Del Heathrow', and the only alcohol allowed will be at mini bar prices...
That'll go down well!

Of course politicians/footballers/rich individuals won't have to adhere to the same regime...

But spare a thought for all those non resident brits in the EU.
Many are pensioners who have got used to spending the winter in warmer climes instead of the damp and cold of the UK, and finding it cheaper to boot.

Under the new rules, they will only be allowed to stay for 3 months in every 6 months.
So they will be forced out of one country and forced into a 'hotel'/detention centre on arrival, which they may well not be able to afford.

Many countries have looked at the detention option and some have gone with it.
A nice little money maker for a few!

But some others were giving the option of 14 days hotel isolation or two tests five days apart a go.
They are coming to the notion that making the latter mandatory is the best move, because not only does it help individuals it helps the economy in general.
Not just filling the pockets of corporates with inside links to government contracts!

They have found that it is the only way to ensure people isolate. Another is to fit them with tracking bracelets / some other way of checking where they are and what they are doing including visits. Costs - wait till the real ones appear.

Looking directly at actual laws - leave it to legal people. For instance there is a clear difference between supporting some one and living with them. It's way way easier to just look at the instructions meant for us mortals. That is what they are for.

What does the media do - go to Oz and find some one who objects to it. In some cases the approach has come about from demands of the people who live there. That view is what counts in some ways but some things are done what ever we think because it's the best thing to do as they see it. They have been pretty clear as to why it's being tightened up, late too. The SA one appeared here in December according to some.

Wrong...

For example...

"A free double test for COVID-19 with a five-day quarantine period between tests will be mandatory for all passengers arriving in Iceland from today (Jan 15) until May 1, the government decided this morning. Up until today, arriving passengers had the option of skipping the test, choosing to undergo a 14-day quarantine instead."

"It was recently suggested that either the border tests be made mandatory or that people who opt for the 14-day quarantine be made to quarantine at government-run quarantine hotels."

The latter suggestion was rejected because of a human and a scientific reaction to the 'virus'...

Treat people reasonably, and the response is by and large the same...

Too much 'stick' and not enough 'carrot' only ever leads to one thing eventually...

Civil disobedience - note what is happening in the Netherlands presently!

Why dud you miss part of what I entered. And is iceland the only country getting arrivals to do something or the other. What I said in total is 100% correct for some and they have tried other methods. So what has Iceland got to do with it?

You said that "They have found that it is the only way to ensure people isolate."

Meaning all of those countries...

I have merely pointed out a different approach that has been taken elsewhere...

And Iceland is not unique is this...

Other countries are going for the detention option, but some are taking a more practical approach!
