in your case your dimmer is too small, gu10s need to have twice as big a dimmer as the lamps are.

so in your case 5 x 250 = 250 you need a 500w dimmer or above

So as a quick test I could remove one of the 5 bulbs and see of the rest dim ok?

in theory yes.

but you mave have already damaged your dimmer (but you cant make it any worse)

you could even try the dimmer on 1 normal lamp
