I have a garage to rewire. There is a cold water supply to the garage fed from underground in LDPE plastic pipe.

The garage is not connected to the house. The electrical supply to the house is a PME, with a SWA submain to the garage.

Does this pipe require bonding? Is it classed as an extranoeus conductive part when in is not in contact with the ground?

There is maybe 2 meters of pipe at the most.

The SWA currently supplying the garage is a 2.5mm² 3 core, with the 3rd core and armour being used as earth.

I guess if I export an earth then the supply cable is not big enough, and if I TT then I'll have to also install a TD RCD.

This may sound silly, but if that garage wall ever gets damp, could that create the same effect as if the pipe were buried in the ground? Albeit not to the same degree?

Its a plastic service, but has copper pipework internally. You should bond to comply with regs - easier to change the copper pipework to plastic

my personal thoughts are it doesnt need bonding as although its metal it cant bring a potential in from one area to another. If you had to bond that then what the difference to saying you need to bond the metal nails in the cable clips behind it?

But as bits of metal pipework and bonding can become a gray are in such situations, plastic piping would be best to prevent future concern (although the tap will still be metal! –but I am not suggesting it needs bonding!)
