downlighters in kitchen

hi i have recently had a single extension built and i am going to have 13 mains fitted downlighters put in it is a very large kitchen diner. i would like to have a double dimmer switch controlling theses with 10 on 1 and 3 on the other and have these working independant of each other as 3 will be in a kitchen flyover. could these be wired in a loop in system if so where will the switch cable be wired to both of them. there will be no access to the loft due to a low hipped loft space. any advice would be great many thanks

Best advice is don't install downlights. Seriously.

Think avacado bathrooms, stone cladding, artexed walls and fake beams. They were all 'cool' in their day, but as soon as every council house had them, well...

if they are 50w a peice you will be pullin 500w on 1 single dimmer. rather a lot. i think most dimmers are up to 400w?

Dingbat - agree about avocado baths, artexed walls, etc but seriously downlighters all over the ceiling seem to be the best option for getting proper light for working in the kitchen ? Long fluorescent tubes are of course great as a light source but look very industrial. I am looking for a good strong light source for the kitchen of my new house, where believe it or not, there is ONE pendant light in the middle of the ceiling....... I have seen track lights, which seem to be a good idea but not many lamps on them, four or five. There are some small fluorescent tubes under some of the top cupboards but I like a good strong overhead light source as well.

Any ideas ?
