Thats them!!! Do you have any cast iron ones too??

Have you dropped any fuses yet?

(I have)

The supply looks a bit smaller than ours, and our tails were VIR too

I've dropped a few of the smaller ones from out of the Bill Radettes. We have so many spares in the stores it doesn't really matter.

If you are brave would you like to see the top half of that picture

Yes please

Pity I can't get past the security guard at the paper mill I was at, some of the stuff in there was dating back to the fifties. I could have got some good (history) pics.

Ever come across one of these?

Spark123

Looks like a mercury arc rectifier.
We had one back in the 80's fed from an 11,000/440 650Kva TX for a single dc drive motor.
Sadly it's now gone.

Ricicle

It doesn't look that bad compared to other 3ph installs I've seen.

Yeah, it is a mercury arc rectifier, this one was used to supply an arc lamp for a cinema projector.

Its only missing a bit of lid, I've seen far worse. (See hall of shame for details)

Spark123, have you fired up that mercury arc rectifier yet, or are you still too scared?

lol, still a bit scared of it. Wonder what the government would think about the carbon emmisions from the arc rods!!

Also found these lamps being used as resistors in this battery charger:

Goes to show how technology has changed!

We removed a bank of about 15 of those exact switch fuses ranging from 100A - 500A last year. The ones we removed were feeding paper insulated SWA, and the spreader boxes were filled with pitch

Old SWA it fed: No external insulation, just bare steel!
