Just carried out an EICR on a holiday let, rewired 2013, cracking job very tidy work, removed a few brushed steel light switches and the flying CPC has been omitted to the faceplate, ok so the switch will be earthed by the screw/fixed lug method but I am tempted to give a C2 for this, am I being harsh ?

Yes you are being very harsh. As there is a fixed lug no flying lead is required so no code at all.

Ask them. But don’t forget MI are guidance only and don’t have to be followed if they are wrong.

Rubbish. A Class I accessory must be Earthed directly and must not rely on the screws and lugs.

Only a flushed backbox can rely on this poor practice.

It is most definitely a C2 offence.

Not an electrician but when I had a sparky checking my house he made me add an earth cable to all switches and sockets.
He didn't charge extra because I did it and he only checked and closed the plates, so he had no financial interest.

Metal faceplates must be earthed properly and may not rely on the screws.

I would C2 it.

You may use the screws to earth the backbox, although it is best practice to fit a link anyway.

My thoughts too, its such a tidy job too, no snags apart from plastic CU I wonder if the metal plates were fitted later by a handyman?

Probably by a DIYer at a guess.

Were the CPCs on 13A sockets terminated at the socket (with a link to the backbox). If yes then I'd go with the handyman/DIY fitting the posh metal switches

I wouldn't C2 this i'd just put a flying lead instead for the sake of five inches of copper & Earth sleeving or remove it from the back box and fit it to the accessory.

Very reasonable (and sensible of/for you) if there were just one, but what if there were umpteen?
