Electrical Pricing

Dont know how relevant it is to this but we just payed £1870 for a Full complete rewire on a 3 bed semi, just under 40 sockets in total and about 12 light fittings, including loft wires for future conversion, outside sockets, outside lights, and a new massive 15 way consumer unit fitted with 240v smoke alarms linked up too.

So id say your price is waaay to much. This is in Manchester. Fully signed off with all certificates.

Wow that's a good price! Take it yours was an unoccupied house with making good done by others?

The 6x9 space is open plan kitchen/ dining living. Upstairs a bedroom and toilet and small hall to be created from existing open space. In response to EFLI- my guess is the builder is charging a management fee hence his reluctance to show me quote and to allow me to pay electrician direct to avoid double VAT charge.

Ahh the thick plottens.

I'd be pricing about 8 days for me and my mate without actually seeing the job.

Your price doesn't sound that unreasonable to me. Especially if you're having led down lights at ~£30 per point in materials alone.

Many thanks RF Lighting, can I ask how that would compare to the £3600 being charged.

RF- I should advise that I'm supplying all the materials ie sockets, lights, smoke alarms etc. The price is labour only plus wire/ trunking.

Our average labour charge would be £200 per day per man.

Obviously it's impossible to price over the internet.

Cable will come in at a couple of hundred quid.

No i was living in the house still, all fully furnished too and he worked round it all and just moved stuff as and when.

Yeah he has left the chasing for me to plaster over as we were decorating anyway i dont mind doing that bit.

One other thought, are you supplying all back boxes, grommets, screws, sleevings, clips, etc?

What are you hoping to gain by supplying some of the materials?

I have recent been repeatedly to a rewire (three bedroom semi, with dining room) Labour only £800.00, never seen such a botched up job!
Plenty of work for me though to sort out!

Lots of electrical work in kitchens, busy area!
Think £3600.00 is a bit steep for labour only plus cable though.
But would depend on the design of circuits, routes and accessories. Downlights are quite labour intensive.

As a landlord I have trade accounts with merchants, however most of the leds and sockets are needed from specialist retailers to match rest of the house.

I add an uplift to a job if the customer supplies his own materials.
There are always problems, wrong stuff, missing or forgotten items, stupid lights that need 5 hands to assemble and install, delays, etc

I do too. Purely from experience we know things like which dimmers are compatible with the LED downlighters we use.

We've had instances where we've had to revisit sites several times to swap out parts when the customer has supplied the gear.

I know when we use our parts it will work first time every time and there will be no call backs for us.
