Energy Bills

That will rely on lots of customers having Smart Meters which actually work as Smart Meters, in the rush to install many were not able to be used Smart once you changed supplier. I am in that situation and despite pestering each subsequent supplier to sort my meters, they have been incompatible for several years. It seems the rush to Smart Meters was just that - once a Smart Meter was in, that was all that mattered.
same as the rush to water meters. When we had 6 people at home using water they would not entertain removing it. Now there’s only 3 of us and the usage works out a fair bit cheaper than an unmetered bill they’re asking me if I want it taken away. F@kin jokers.

It does.

Someone I know had to buy a new one after theirs got too old. Had to buy from the site owners too. And they charged to transport it on the site too ...... Their site closes at certain times of the year too. And they can't use bleach as it messes up the site's drainage system. You have to buy gas from them and if you need a handyman, you can't just being someone in from outside the site. They have to be supplied by the site (nod nod wink wink, backhanders all round).

It is sodding outrageous!

I thought much of that had been outlawed long since. Think I will stick to my tourer..

Just had this from BG, standing charge £197 from April:eek::eek::eek::mad:

BG are a bit naughty. I’m not in a fixed tariff…ended a few months ago but they’ve not adjusted my DD so I continued to pay £127pm.

After 3 months I had a debit balance of £450!

I’ve just paid it off and doubled my monthly DD which will now meet the monthly costs (for the time being).

Fortunately I’m in a position to pay this off, but I imagine there’s a number of people that would struggle to find that extra money.

As gas went up according to reports by 30% the estimated additional costs forecasts may be out and electricity too as a consequence.

Yes, so you can't save money even if you don't use anything!

Isn't it time we started fracking?
Yes, we should start fracking and also exploiting the massive amount of gas and oil still under the north sea - Problem is, even if we embarked on this route tommorow, it would be years before it was on stream - but hey ho, better later than never.

We also need to start building Nuclear (both weapons and power supply)

I live on my own and would class myself as a low(ish) energy consumer compared to families. I've just received an email from my supplier (SSE) advising my prices are increasing by £620 over the year. Breaks down thus in terms of my DDs

Gas: £48 up to £77
Elec: £56 up to £79

I'm fortunate in that I can absorb that level of increase and as I say I appreciate my bills are much lower than some. However still quite a significant and unwelcome increase :(

Mine went up £100 a month. I managed to get Bulb to agree to start taking payment after bill issued (you know, like the good old days) rather than their mad method of overestimating and taking the money a month in advance.

We're turned the heating down, the hot water down, stopped using the tumble dryer, boiling water on the hob, and getting strict with lights. Hoping it will help. But still loads! They wanted about £260 a month. I suspect a lot of that is running 3 computers and 2 xboxes.

Nuclear would take a decade and cost roughly what Gas does now.

Fracking would help energy security but not prices and take five years or so, and be abandoned as it won't be compatible with net zero and more expensive than other sources of gas.

Otherwise, yeah why not.
