We went on the variable tariff a few months ago shot up to 180, just adjusted our DD and now 260 for Feb payment in about a weeks time

I think we had a bit of luck. Our £100pm 2 year fixed deal with OVO came to an end in October. I begrudgingly renewed it for another 2 years at £127pm and then a week later it all went tits up and prices started to rise. Best I can get today based on my consumption last year from the same company on a one year fix is £220pm.

will they not be expecting people to cut back after a 50% increase? . That’s just a green light to put it up even more.

Back in the day I used to work for an Electricity Board, most fraud was flagged by "nil advances", ok some was picked up by meter readers but really hard to spot

With octopus last two years have ended up with £900 credit so hopefully my should lvl it's self out was with sse before an they would pay you're credit back every couple if months glad I switched

What did they used to do with the gas meters? Turn them round so that they ran backwards wasn't it or just replace it with a spare for a month or so?

With OVO, any overpayment gets 5% interest. I wonder what would happen if you overpaid by fifty grand? Could be a good earner!

I asked Bulb this. They claim that there electric is from renewable sources, so why does the price of gas affect their electricity costs?
Fobbed me off.

Because they don't know - when the wind don't blow, the renewables don't work. Whether working or not, they have to have other generation (gas) on standby ready to fire up to balance the load. Having plant sat around, even if doing nowt, still costs a lot of money. It wouldn't be necessary if we relied more on nuclear.
