England v USA

strange how we had one of the highest scoring records during the qualifiers for the world cup, must have been the opposition scoring own goals as we are so negative (hmmm bit like lots of forum members)

i dont see many other teams in the 1st round hof matches have been too much to shout about, if anything many of them have been poor

WHy is sarcasm beneath me, i was meerly stating that i agree more with the comments of a man who has one the world cup and therefore has more of an impartial ability to summarise the match than some moaning minnie on an internet forum. Its a discussion about football, if you expect not to get sarcasm in such a conversation, then you best go and cuddle up with your blanket in the corner

Have to agree there, another two draws played out today,Brazil v North Korea tonight and you know what will happen if Brazil give them a spanking everyone will wax lyrical about how it should be played when in reality the teams that hang on in there when not playing well and grind out a result very often come to the fore.

Well this is supposed to be a fair and friendly forum, moderated as such, where people enjoy a healthy but respectful debate. i don't think sarcasm is necessary, but i accept will happen, but insults? how many times have you called me a miserable git now?

But then just like the footy, maybe my expectations are set too high?

gods sake, can you not take some banter? If youre that precious about things then maybe you better avoid discussions where someone has an opinion contrary to yours.

now go and watch the football and stop whinging. Glad we dont play continental football like portugal, or italy.

of course i can take a bit of banter 'gods sake'!! but you see you're patronising, and disrespectful... and you have to maintain the upper hand.. maybe you're just full of testosterone, or maybe we've crossed swords before? i can't remember.. tbh
And don't forget Thermo, it's you who couldn't cope we me having a different opinion to you... and resorted to petty insults.

Don't forget, that in 1966 England's very first match against Uruguay, ended in a 0-0 draw. Everyone knocking Green in goal on Saturday all seem to forget the 10 English players in front of him , who let the USA through to score.
There was an item in the sports pages today about the ball. Apparently almost all of the other teams have been using the Jabulani ball since January.
The Bundesliga adopted and have used this ball since then. In the UK, due to agreements between the FA, Premiership etc the official ball (which they have no choice but to use) has been made by Umbro. The first time the England players got to use the Jabulani ball was when they went to their training camp in Austria (March). It wasn't even allowed to be used in the warm up matches at Wembley due to the contract the FA have with Nike (who own Umbro).
Germany's Bundesliga have no such contract with anyone and so can use whatever ball they choose. (but have almost exclusively used the Jabulani)
(FA take note)

i'm not feeling the 'ball' excuse... i can 'slot' a tennis ball through our gate, past the kids.... if i need to ;)

Is there something magical about this ball that means that our brave boys, fighting for queen and country (er, wrong group, ed) need specialist training and equipment. Have they carried out appropriate risk assessments and been cleared by the HSE?

Or could it be, he made a mistake and it was his fault

well maybe you should've introduced her to them way before the actual 'tournament' took place... did she look scared?

Anyone watch the Brazil/ Korea match tonight??
A brilliant first goal by Brazil. I reckon when the player kicked the ball , it was no more than 16" off the back line, yet somehow found the back of the net,
Sheer Class that one. ;) ;) ;)

PS,,, I wasn't using the ball as an excuse for Green's error. Rather I was asking why no one seems to be blaming the 10 other players in front of him for letting the USA get that far forward.
The comments about the ball were intended to show that England have not been used to playing with that particular ball as much as most of the other teams.

Fair point

No one's ribbing you here - it's sounds a pretty lame excuse by some pundits. Curiously, I assume that these same people who want to find a spherical scapegoat didn't mention the fact that the same design of ball found it's way into the american net at the start of the game
