Expensive expenses

The problem with higher taxes, and we already pay more than ever in history, is the Sweden/Holland result. You get an enormous outflux of top people.

Perhaps it is their rates of taxation that allow both countries to deliver high quality health services? Oh...and what is an outflux?

What other prople earn is - or should be - of absolutely no relevance. To an MP, or anyone else seeking to justify their level of remuneration.

If you want to earn £120kpa, go train as a GP; if you want to earn £64kpa, then go MPing; if you want £200kpa for doing a shi'ite job, go train as a plumber :).

Simples.

If it works so well, why did both countries decide to reverse the measures?

Every communist country in the world has tried to tax to the max, and every single one has failed to build a healthy economy.

If there was a nobel prize for stupidity, the inventor of the principle of " redistribution of wealth" would have been the first winner.

If we want decent people in parliament then we should pay them a decent salary. The Prime Minister earns about £180K so that should be the top whack for any form of Government paid employee. Is the head of the BBC more important than the Prime Minister? No - well pay the head of the BBC £150K instead of £610K.

How about you Shytalkz - what do YOU charge per hour?

Rubbish, Joe: salary is not an indication that you would get the right people; nor is the level of salary a comparison as to "importance" whatever that may mean. Look at the banking world for a start.

People who have a genuine passion and commitment to the job they do do not have salary at the top of the list. The HoP represents a gravy train which attracts megalomaniacs, with nary the odd decent person within its make up and the level of salary has jack shi'ite to do with it.

I'm not going around on the hourly rate bandwagon again with you - that's been flogged to death ad nauseum by you in threads previous.

Joe does not have a very good grasp of money, finance or economy.
But following democratic principles, you do not need knowledge or understanding to vote.

Democracy: the principle of politicians being able to turn any lunacy into law, provided they can convince enough fools it is beneficial to them.

Shytalkz earns £2000 per week - way more than the Prime Minister.

If you were to offer a Structural Engineer (like Shytalkz) minimum wage you wouldn't get anyone taking it up. Salary is what attracts him. Why tell fibs about it? Offer rubbish wages and you get rubbish people. MPs are just the same.

Wrong again.
PM earns considerably more than 60K

Wrong again.
Lots of mp's, when you add all the perks to their basic wage, total around 150,000 - 200,000. And that is NOT including their other jobs.

round figures:

basic 60K
expenses 50K
salary spouse 40K

You could argue that the spouse works for the money, but tell me: how many £40K p.a. jobs can you find where no qualification is required, nor any proof of actual useful work done?

And the spouse's job is not added to your income, so taxed lower.
The expenses are tax free, so effectively worth double compared to a salary that is taxed.

They don't all employ family or fiddle expenses. The PM earns around £180K.
Shytalkz around £600k.

Like I said Joe, you are not very good with money.
2000 a week (your claim) does not equal 600K p.a.

You are not too good at English either; "lots of mp's" actually means: not all of them.

Not really, the engineer has proven to bring value for money and earns his keep.
Brown, darling and the rest of his club have nearly destroyed the country, and proven to be totally incompetent.

Any CEO of a large company that ends up with a 1000 billion pound hole in the budget would have (been made to) resign, and this lot should be sacked, the sooner the better.

And as I mentioned before: If another team is able to sort out the mess this bunch of idiots have dropped us into, and improving our standard/quality of life, it would be totally justified to give them a million a year each. After tax.
And it would be a bargain.

If the government of the day had banned big mortgages, put up taxes, slashed expenditure, reduced pay levels etc there would have been riots. That's democracy for you - it is government by popularity contest. It only works in the good times. That is why we are where we are. Only now will people get real.
