fines for middle lane hogging

If a motorist is doing 70 in the middle lane what law is he breaking?
They're going to take money off people for doing nothing wrong now, bstrds.
If I ever get done for that I'll argue my case in court.

The law he is breaking is now called the middle lane hogging law.

They will take money off people for doing it because it has been made illegal.
Doing so will now subject you to fines and points.

Strangely speeding motorists have been fined for exactly this offence ie breaking a law and yet presumably you guite happily agree with this even though it is a crime that can be committed with absolutely no 'victims' .

Where are the 'victims' when someone gets a speeding ticket traveling on an empty motorway at night?

Because no-one can catch me - unless you choose to observe whichever rules suit you. You simply want to hog the middle lane at a higher speed. What do you think the outside lane is for?

Its not actually about whether anyone can catch you or not.
Its about your road positioning.
If you are in the middle lane even if there are no cars for miles either in front or behind you , you will get a fine for not using the inside lane.

You are not thinking straight.

No-one will get a fine for sitting on the limit.

They will now.
You are breaking a law.

Speeding motorists have been paying fines for breaking the law for years , what makes you so special?

I don't. If the lane in the left is clear I'll use it, but if it's got trucks in it - I won't.

Left lane = truck lane

Middle lane = 70mph

Outside lane= Idiots playground.

Then you wont be hogging the middle lane! So why all the outrage?

Left lane = truck lane

Middle lane = 70mph

Outside lane= Idiots playground.

Wrong.

ALL lanes are for ALL traffic with the exception of the outside lane which cannot be used by HGVs and vehicles pulling trailers.

You dont seem to know the laws at all. Surprised you even passed your test , and you are one of the 'law abiding' drivers??
In reaity I bet you are just mourning the passing of your ability to smugly hold other driver up....

The word 'sad' comes to mind.

I travel at the speed limit so hold no-one up. Been driving since 1975. I won't be changing the way I drive. Tell me - what do you think the outside lane is for?

What if the amount of traffic passing you is in BOTH lanes behind you?
Two into one doesn't go.
You have created a mobile chicane and bottleneck.

Given that all laws are Londoncentric I would imagine that this law has come about because Police cannot get to incidents on the M25 and instead are help up in massive queues on the outside lane while everyone dithers about in front and that middle lane hoggers have been identified as culprits.

You stick to your middle lane if you wish but when that traffic passing you in the single lane you have allowed people to use , don't be surprised when the one going past that is a police car immediately pulls you over...

But they won't. I travel at the speed limit as do all the other people in the middle lane. If someone travels at 50 in the middle lane then they deserve a fine and points, but in reality, the middle lane is full of cars travelling at the speed limit and the left lane is full of trucks.

NOW ANSWER MY QUESTION:

What is the outside lane for?

You would actually hold me up I have always gone faster than the speed indicated on my speedo except in 30mph 40mph and 50mph zones in which I adhere completely. Any unrestricted roads I will drive up to a speedo indicated 83mph which is a GPS confirmed 78mph which is actually non punishable. ie speed limit plus 10% plus 2mph is the normal trigger for speeding offences. ie 79mph. The slowest speeding offence I have had a ticket for is 83mph which I deserved as that would have been 90mph on the speedo.

Then you should be banned for speeding. You are in breach of the terms of your licence. Ergo - you are a fool.

You just read what you want to see.

So I shall spell it out.

People will be driving at up to 80mph on their speedos and they know the Police will not pull them over. Its a grey area . . just like your grey area.
When your speedo says 70mph you will actually be doing 66mph since all speedometers BY LAW have to indicate a higher speed than you are actually travelling.

You will stick to that speed of 66mph and resist all encouragement to move over despite actually impeding people.

Let me just ask you two questions.
1. Have you ever broken the speed limit whether caught or not.
2. Have you ever been in an accident with another vehicle?

Strangely I dont expect either an answer or the truth in response.
