Flag dynamics

As I suggested some while ago, I've had it in mind for years, to devise a flag pole, and fly a Union Flag upon it. The present situation, and number of foreign to the UK flags I see, for instance, that of the avatar of morqthana - simply prompted me to get on with it recently.

I am equally dismayed, by fillyboys avatat, should it be any consolation?

To be clear - no I don't watch GB News, bother with tic-tok, or watch weird video on Youtube, to determine my opinion. Nor do I support the extremist Tommy Robinson.

A few at random

Your beloved St. George was half Palestinian.
And/or possibly from what is now Turkey.

But given his ethnicity and place of birth, and his likely skin colour, if he rocked up on a small boat today, I wonder how welcoming the flag-wavers would be. (Actually, I don't wonder at all - I know just how they would like to treat him.)

This deep history stuff is utterly pointless.
Depends on which bit of deep history you’re talking about, be careful what you wish for. I don’t understand why NOT flying a union flag on a pole outside your house means you are somehow unpatriotic, how did we get here?

Literally nobody is saying that.
Fly the flag, or don't fly the flag. Just never tear down the flag of the country you live in. If you're really that disillusioned, just leave. Go find that utopia.

Who’s tearing them down?

:)
I must remember that one when trying to teach people about the pitfalls of assuming that association implies causation - and, in particular, the need to get the chicken and eggs the right way around!

Examples I commonly use include suggestions such as that fires become more serious if more fire engines are sent to them, or that the more 'equipment' one attaches to a patient, the more ill they become,etc.etc. - but I think I'll probably add your granddaughter's one to my repertoire :)
Mrs. Trellis said in a letter "I think wind turbines are a waste of money, the country's quite windy enough as it is".

History is never pointless. People who say it is are people who want to deny it because it undermines some narrative of theirs.

In this case how can there be no point in making the cross of St. George wavers aware of the truth about St. George, where he came from, what colour he was, and how his connection to the UK is a great deal more tenuous than the "invaders" they want to imprison.
