1) It is a common feature of phpBB forums to be able to display search results by either &the ability to do so here would be welcomed

2) Choice of both as per regular phpBB forums.

I think if you have a look at a phpBB2 forum & emulate the search function on that you would not be going wrong.

I see that there is not currently a limit on the number of letters (this often put in to limit server access times) - this is good - please keep it that way (especially since this site uses BS terms etc.

Many things;

- you can search by topic or by post
- you can search only topic title
- you can order results by relevance or date
- you can search with more time constraints than before
- posts are indexed in near real time
- the core search engine is completely different
- the search engine has the ability to index all posts over in one index plus huge capacity for more (the previous search had 2 indexes - General Discussion / Everything else).

That's off the top of my head, I'm sure there are a few more things kicking around.

i have to confess it does seem better.
yesterday i seached for my last sunflowers post, the search could not find it, this new one gave it as the 3rd option

What's new about it is that it is not the new search facility, it is the old one.

The new search facility has useful features, but can we have one more? Sorting by relevance and date is good; sorting by reverse date (oldest first) would be a bonus.

I will have to investigate, it would appear to be a problem with indexing of the topics. The posts search has the post you mention:
