Hi all,

Just had offer accepted on a detached property which needs some work and alterations and was thinking of extending out the back.

Question is, do councils approve of double storey rear extensions the full width of original house? It would it over 2m off side boundaries and 10m from rear

Thanks in advance

I doubt it would be a problem in principle in terms of space about the building

Really though it's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question as so much depends on the council's policies and design criteria, and the location itself.

Just living in a listed building - or near to one that may be affected - could make an enormous difference, for example.

Blup

You *may* be able to do a 3m 2-storey rest extension under permitted development.

Thanks, 3m would be more than enough.

Guess I'll have to submit a pre-application plan and see what they come back with once I get the keys which should be early September.

The neighbours to the right already haver an extension past the rear of the property and the outside of the 45deg view, but the neighbour on the left's house is at an angle facing this house so that could be a problem, but it's not a residential house as it's a doctors surgery.
