Just looked at my records online

From the 1st August 2018 to 18 December 2021 (latest online date I have), we have used 24,748 kWh of electricity and 67,944.32 kWh of gas.

We are a family of 5 with a WB Combi, gas hob and leccy TD and oven. Both our mixer showers are heated by gas.

How does this compare?

Are you jesting mate or got it wrong?

According to this the averages
========
How many kWh does the average home use in the UK? According to Ofgem, the average household in the UK has 2.4 people living in it, and uses 2,900 kWh of electricity and 12,000 kWh of gas respectively. This works out as an average of 242 kWh of electricity, and 1,000 kWh of gas, per month.25 Oct 2021

How much energy does the average UK household consume?

==============

Yes, averages are not the full picture especially if you are retired/working from home etc like us - i will check later tonight and post but yours appear to wrong - ours are high and will be money wise at least 300 per month dual fuel but will chekc the kwh

Thanks

btw - three of us in our home - larger than average property

Is that in your "massively upgraded, large home" -- don't think you've told us all about that yet?

How does this compare?

I actually compiled our energy usage the other day for 2020 and 2021 (see attached). There are (for the next couple of months) only two of us and we have a stove and coal fire, so that off-sets the usage a little. Last year we used 1,653 for electricity and 5,558 for gas.

We have a large detached 5 bed house. We pay Octopus 161.84 per month for gas and electricity.

Octopus are brilliant I really rate them and their customer service. Think ours' was £79 last month but it wasn't particularly cold for any real length of time.

Did you get their e-mail about the price hike in April and how they're currently selling fuel to us at a loss?

The price was agreed at the start: August 2018.

I am mostly home, 2 others are pretty much working from home most days.

you seem to be quoting consumption over 28 months so divide by 28 then multiply by 12 for approximate annual consumption ??

10606 for leccy.

29119 for gas.

CWH, no I missed that. What is the hike?

It's a long e-mail, but the important bits read:

At the moment, customers on standard variable tariffs are protected from price rises until the Government price cap is updated in April. That means for an average home, we are currently buying energy for about £2000 and selling it for £1300.

However, when the cap is updated, it’s likely a typical bill will rise over 75% compared to the same time last year. That’s another £60 a month: a huge burden for most homes.

@14,000 for gas and @4,000 for electric per year. Signed a new 2 year fixed in October last year with OVO for £127 per month (was £100 per month). 3 bed semi, just two of us living here. We like a bit of heat.

You obviously don't have 3 power hungry teens and 20s kids who have never heard the phrase "turn it the f*** off when you're not using it...."

It really doesn't help that Number 1 son had a house share at Uni where it was bills inc.

Their idea of a thermostat was leaving the heating on full blast 24/7 and if it gets too hot, to open a window. Lights were never switched off except bedroom lights at night.

Got the unenviable task of yelling at, I mean teaching them that power prices are going to skyrocket and to turn lights and stuff off when they're not being used.

And a note to me to reduce TD usage.
