Gas hob with drawers underneath, what do the regs say?

My comment want participation Alec at you OP. But seeing as you feel like being a belligerent smart a7se, why are you even pondering this problem. It is for the qualified installer to worry about not you.

Weather comp on a hob :D

a)Could you post the first part of that again, in English this time?

b)Perhaps you shouldn't have replied in such a cocky way in the first place?

Wonder if it turns down the gas when it knows you've put boiling water in the pan?

Crossed posts.

OP, before this gets silly can you tell us the make and model of your new hob

Gas registered plumbers are trained to fit gas systems according to the current regulations and are paid from £12 per hour

Why does a boiler service cost so much then? Less than a hours work, no parts to fit? ;)

That is a starting wage for an engineer on the books the firm employing them will be charging much more for example £85 for a service, this price takes into account all costs from overheads (van, fuel, tools, specialist equipment, training, registration, public liability insurance ect.) and profit as all businesses are entitled to make but which the public seem to begrudge gas engineers from making, but no business is viable if it doesn't make a profit ;)

Hi OP

Yes your hob may be installed using a flexible hose, the manufacturers instructions clearly state so.

Your installer will be able to clarify but if you want a belt and braces approach then buy the manufacturers hose as mentioned in the MI`s

Make the connection directly to the end of the elbow fitted on

You can use a flexible stainless steel pipe available from your

However my understanding of the above states that you may use other approved flexible connectors

Thanks Ian. That's how I read it too, but forum opinion seems to weigh in favour of rigid pipe.

I was just curious whether the regs overruled the MI's or vice versa, but it seems to be the latter.

I'll show the plumber the MI when he gets here, but he didn't turn up today to see what's what and it's his opinion that counts as he's doing the job...eventually. ;)

Its a daft one to be honest mate , MI`s over rule standard regs, as regs are a "general rule" but it could be argued how an engineer interpenetrates the MI , in this case the manu has made it very clear so you shouldnt have a problem, some MI`s are as clear as mud, but in your case I would say it is very clear that you can, nice looking hob by the way, quite pricey but really looks the part

We were going induction originally, for the look and understood them to be efficient, but chose gas as we are used to it. A lot of gas hobs look bulky, but this seems to have a low profile.

Nice one Dan

I for one appreciate quality appliances, hate seeing cheap shoite at £49.99, you only get what you pay for, I have Bosch oven and Hob would give you a pic but I am only allowed in the kitchen when something needs replaced or moved

We have a Bosch double oven and it is pretty good.

Dishwasher too.

Love my Samsungs though so have a big american Fridge Freezer in the kitchen and a half width one in the utility. - matches all the tablets, phones and Laptop....

Missus refused an Induction hob - even though she had free reign in the kitchen design. Insisted on gas and a monster Wok burner. that hob takes more heat than the house does 90% of the time
