Get FTSE Done - FTSE below 24th June 2016

So, the time to buy would be when you think the FTSE is at its lowest and wait (hope?) for the market to recover? Where would you buy the ETF's?

predicting the bottom is hard, but buying on the way up is easier.

You can open a share ISA with these guys though they have a quarterly charge of around £30, so you need to be finding at lease 3-5k to make it work.

Once you have transferred some of your cash you can then look at what to buy. LON:MIDD is a good FTSE 250 performer long term.

Obviously you realise your investment may go down as well as up. Not withstanding the current climate you should return 4-5% net of costs. You also get dividend on the shares which you can take out or drip back in.

ETFs Exchange traded funds, are like unit trusts without the huge management fees. Say you have 5,000 to invest and want your investment to track the performance of the FTSE100 or the wider 250. Rather putting £20 in each of the 250 companies in the FTSE 250. you put your 5000 in an ETF that tracks the performance of the 250. You are buying a share of a share so to speak.

If you walk in to any hughstreet bank they will convince you to go 60-70% equity 10-20% bonds and 10-20% commodity depending on your risk profile. They will want 1-2% to join and 1% a year simply to do what you can do for < 1/2 a % via an ETF. You can use your stock ISA allowance to do this all tax free.

I'm about 40% stock & investments including pension, the rest is cash and property, still down several 100 over the last few weeks. I'm putting another 100 in over the coming weeks. Cash just rots in the bank

Why would you have 100k plus sitting in your bank account with current interest rates.

cos I'm stupid :D

though with recent market performance I've no regrets.

Edit: its more about accumulation and the time taken to buy stuff. Plus the tax impact etc.

so will the ftse curve be the inverse of the infection bell curve? -I mean will the ftse drop to its lowest when the infection is at its peak? -thats reckoned to be May

I can see there will be some businesses that are currently in a weak cashflow situation not surviving, especially airlines and travel businesses, so that might keep the ftse index down for a while

short answer - I don't f**** know. :D

Longer:

I don't think JETS is such a bad investment https://www.investopedia.com/markets/quote?tvwidgetsymbol=jets
People will Fly in the summer anyway
the US will protect its carriers
the buy price is a bargain and people are shorting Airlines

I think Virgin might struggle though as they were hit by Flybe and have cash issues. For investments you have to look at what weighs on a business.

Its not as simple as business X should do well because people want what X sells.

At the moment I'm tempted to buy another airbnber as mine seem to be giving me 3-4% without much effort.

Here is one Euro stock I wouldn't be recommending above 5 euro:
EPA: BEN

US healthcare are still charging for coronavirus testing

"And those sites will most likely want to bill an insurer, Kates said. So how much will it cost patients to get the coronavirus test? “It is going to be a function of whether or not they are insured and what kind of coverage they have,” Kates said. “They could face the cost of a doctor’s office or hospital outpatient or ER visit — a particular issue for those who are uninsured or have a high deductible.”

how how will the death rate have to be in the USA for the public to turn on Trump?

In the US they simply are not testing enough. First people are put off by the costs and then put off by their insurance company asking for copays for treatment. They also do not want to test even if they are fit and young and dont require treatment as next yr their premiums will increase.

Its why a private healthcare system is absolutely mental yet so many on here argue for that because they are filled with hate and ill informed.

who does? nobody seems to arguing for a private medical system. Plenty can see the benefits of some outsourcing.

I think its likely the US is under reporting, but fatality:infection ratios are probably the best indicator.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone on here who is actively arguing for it. Can you name names?

no he cannot, he may put a link to a Hugh article in the hope that you get fed up with it and don’t pull him up on it ,the poor guy is suffering from mythomania he probably doesn’t even know he’s doing it, i was listening to the radio the other day and there was a professor on who reckons that 25% of leftists were being treated for mental health issues, but the scary thing about that is75% are wandering around completely untreated , some of them are on this very forum

anybody that voted for this Tory govt has sanctioned privatisation.
Oh how did we know you were going to chip in with that? What would they have got if they’d voted for a Labour government?
