12v lights - why do people call them LV, I know they are less than 1000V, but surely they are SELV

Joe public will mess with electricity, but not ever touch plumbing..

Security lights - why do people wait until it's dark & raining before they want them? What's wrong with getting them in the Summer??

Yup. "Low Voltage" is how they've become known. GRRR.

Yup. DOUBLE GRRR.

Because they don't think of it. Too much having barbies and a good time to

think ahea

d.

And why do people call sockets "plugs", and (sometimes) switches, "sockets"?

Why do they shoot me strange glances when I ask to look at their Consumer Unit or if they've got any spare lamps?

And why, in 2006, do people not know what an RCD is? They've been around 32 years in this country...

Why, also, do all jobs need doing today instead of in 3 weeks?? And when you say 3 weeks they then moan and say that that is not good enough?? What do they expect you to do? just drop all the job's you had planned in for the last few weeks for them. I'm sure they would appreciate you doing that to them!!

That used to P me off big time when I was S/E.

I need it today. Well, sir, why didn't you get in touch sooner?

(its because of the oxymoron 'plugsocket' which people shorten to socket!) -annoys me too. 'wheres the plug' "its in your hand!!!" my other clasic response following someone into a dark room 'wheres the lights' "on the ceiling!"

Numpty kitchen fitters who drill through a socket cable in a brand new extention on what was supposed to be my last day on the job before christmas.

yes i hate them too!!!!

Opps i am one

My personnel favourites......

''what ya mean its no good? its been like that for years'' (said whilst looking at you like your from another planet)

''nah, it dunt matter about supplementary/equip bonding, i just want the shower/socket/light putting in pal''

Yes, we were getting the occasional shock of the (metal) light switch.... I thought it was because it was new!

have you been thinking in terms of the jargon in the regs book for so long you forget what words actually mean in regular english?

"extra low" is a weired peice of jargon that comes from the fact that within your fields specialist jargon the terms low and high were already taken by regular domestic voltages and longer distance transmission/distribution voltages respectively.

people who object to all the work required to get a cable to a new socket etc.
Can`t you just fix it on the wall and electric comes out? I wish.

why`s it getting hot , it`s only 12 volts?

My TV don`t work.
I don`t repair TVs.
It worked before you rewired my house , so there must be too much electric now.

Your wiring is faulty - everytime I use this electric fire it trips out.
No the RCD is seeing a fault.
It`s always worked before, no problem.
You`ve had it since the great war (Not Vera Lynn`s war the one before it).
You need a new fire.
No it`s your wiring.

I`ve always used silver paper in plugtops when a fuse blows, it`s always been safe.

These metal fittings have always worked OK without an earth, so why do they need one now?

I`ve always twisted wires together then taped them, no problem.

It`s only a 5 amp lighting circuit so it can`t be dangerous to touch.

I`ve had loads of shocks, stop being so soft.

The fuse kept blowing so I put a nail in, it`s OK now.

Of course this wire (1.5 T & E) is OK, it`s only running a washer and dryer, not a whole house.

Well a bloke down the pub says it`s OK and He should know, h`s a decorator. (0.5 3 core flex wired directly into kitchen socket to run striplights).

This (8.4KW) shower has ben running off this bedroom socket for 15 years, now I want a 10.8KW in I suddenly need a bigger cable .

I`ve done loads like this, never had a problem.
You should not have done any like this you pilchard!

and why do folk call lavatory hand basins sinks?.
It`s unusual to find a sink in a bathroom

And why do folk thing that by turning a stoptap etc back they are reducing the water pressure so pipes won`t burst.
