Hi guys having a new socket fitted outside .
What checks should be made before and after install ?
I hear the socket must be checked if ring is on RCD circuit . What tests would need to be carried out ? bonding , earth ? minor cert?
Thanks

no handyman should be doing this he wont have the expensive and totally necessary equipment to do the vital checks electric can kill it really can i no you think this is not helping but really it is

You must receive a minor works certificate which will document that your installation is in an appropriate condition to enable an outside socket to be added to the existing installation. This will involve checking things like the earth bonding is all in place and will also include the test results for

Continuity of the circuit protective conductor
Continuity of the ring final conductors (if applicable)
Insulation resistance of the new conductors
Polarity
External earth fault loop impedence (Ze)
Circuit earth fault loop impedence (Zs)
Functional test of the RCD, and trip times for 1xIΔn and 5xIΔn

If the person proposing to do this work can’t or won’t issue you a certificate with all these tests completed, then you must find someone else for your own safety.

The certificate will look something like this.
