Give Boris Some Credit

The thing about insulting little gob ****es like you is that you don't have a pot to **** in, and probably never will - unless mummy and daddy give you it. Shell suit? Never worn one. You need to get your generation and location right, sonny.

It must be galling for someone so perfect as you to realise that there are older, more experienced folk than yourself who can do your job and in many cases do it far better (that's what experience brings). After all, arent you supposed to be one of the best, brightest generation yet? I wonder if you could even scrape a pass mark in a 1970s A -level...
Great points.. Well made.

Even with a 15% deposit, the mortgage alone was two thirds of my basic. Overtime was for survival, rather than pleasantries

That sort of relationship with variations has been around for a long time.I do feel that things have gone back to a situation where lots will rent for their entire life. I've already mentioned why that has happened - buy to rent being the only way of getting a decent return on money. That has forced prices up especially at the cheaper end.

Tax relief was just on the interest by the way. Rather than going for that it was far better to pay mortgages off if money was available as any interest on that would be taxed anyway. It also paid to keep payments up once interest rates increased if people could. There has been some significant changes in the cost of mortgage after it was taken out - some found it too much. Maintaining the higher rate when they went down again though could reduce the 25years significantly. In fact it didn't need much extra to get it down to 20. Inflation helped with that. That is now kept low but certain things that were in the cost of living index were removed by Mrs T. She added things that were getting cheaper - TV's, fridges etc.

My father bought a house in 54. B'ham overspill estate mostly council. Production engineer with 6 working for him. No spare cash at all. Want some say kitchen units - make them. Couldn't afford another child for several years. Things started to ease for him in the 70's.

My wife is a special schools teacher. They get a bit extra. She bought a small ex council house in 83 after she was divorced. Older council estate that was seen as undesirable. Got nothing out of the divorce ;) but did quietly take some of the furniture. The only way she could do it was by buying of a property company that retained some of the price of the house. Came as bit of a shock when we married later and sold the place as she didn't know. Just signed the forms. I met her in 85. My brother bought a house the same way. He did know what he was doing - only way he could afford it.

Sounds like Boris's talk tonight will be a bit underwhelming if people expect much of a change. More of a slogan change.

So what can we credit boris for now?
Getting to look important whilst saying sod all in reality as usual!

It was all 'hopes' and 'maybes' and 'aspirations' and 'encouragement'.
And of course it leaves the UK divided yet again.

Sounding familiar?

His mate goebbels will no doubt be particularly pleased with the speech he conjured up, whilst the clown tried (and failed) to look churchillian.
A shame the chancellor wasn't there to announce that "Never will so much be owed by so many to so few"!

You were lucky we had a table made from toilet roll middles and we were grateful, all our furniture was second hand but we bought some kitchen units from Status, went with a mate who had a trailer

See I look at that as a positive. At least you were creative enough to build a toilet roll middle table..... Lots of educated plebs out there who havnt that ability.
