Good price for a 1200x1300 DG uPVC window?

We are converting our garage and will need the above window- 2 panes of glass, one side to open, some sort of trickle ventilation.

We have been quoted £900, fitted, by Zenith (after lots of titting about, taking very low interest loan, a discount card etc etc).

The product does look quite convincing. It's pretty much burglar proof (other than the half brick, I guess!), no rubber strip to perish, the frame is well insulated.

But £900?

What do you think?

Sounds a right rippoff to me! Or did you get the size wrong?

Also, if you are converting the garage and are doing so under the nose of Building Control then why bother getting it fitted? Either fit yourself or get your builder to fit.

Only in as much as that it doesn't have a visible black latex/rubber strip that can be peeled out , and the 45 degree profiled uPVC moulding that sloes down towards the glass pane isn't priable off with a screw driver (to enable someone to get access to and actually remove the panes of glass).

You're right in that whilst this window is 'made to measure', obviously there isn't an actual hole to fit it into! But the window will be out of sight of a road or walkway so a determined person could work on it quietly.

So, what do you recommend? Buying a window 'off the shelf' (it's a bog standard white uPVC)?

What should I look for in terms of safety, Standards, etc?

I realise that my builder would be the one who'd arrange the window installation but it'd be useful to know what Standards we'd expect!

So just like any other window then. Externally beaded windows and just peeling a rubber strip out to remove the glass are thankfully long gone.

All windows are made to fit the hole they are going into. While some DIY sheds sell a selection of windows on the shelf, can't see why anyone would buy such a thing.

£900 is far too much. Should be gold plated with knobs on for that price.
If you just want to buy the window, find a local manufacturer who will make it for you.
The builder can probably install it, and if not, it would only be a small cost to have someone else do it.

Pretty sure no one would make a side opener at 1300mm tall, you'd probably be better with a top opener with a 450mm transom drop over a side hung, the 1200mm width can easily be split equally into 600mm

Expect to get quotes for about half that as well, £900 way way too much
