We're selling my mums house and need to get the boiler serviced. It was last serviced in March last year so it’s now overdue. It was installed by the same person who has serviced it for the last 8 years. No problems with him and he seems to do a good job. Has helped my mum out with it on several occasions since it was installed. He is the son of my mums cleaner. Works for British Gas. However, when I check his number on the GSR, it comes up as a company, not BG. He is listed as one of the engineers on that company though. He does put his own name and the company’s name on the service record. Only asking as the buyers solicitor is asking for the boiler service record. Is it ok/legal for someone to use a company's registration number or must they have their own personal GSR registration number?

Just tell them you dont have the records - only perhaps proof of payment for one.
Sounds nit picking to ask about service history - tell them you dont have it, what are they going to do.

Edit: It was my solicitor asking for the actual service record to prevent any hold ups down the line.

"Thanks for your email, can you arrange to forward the original booklet to us as the buyer's Solicitors will require us to hand the same over to them on completion".

The buyers solicitors were more concerned with any proof of the last time it was serviced. For what it’s worth and what it will cost, we are just going to get it serviced in case it holds things up further down the line. Just wanted to make sure that it was okay for the engineer to use a company’s registration number or whether they had to have one of their own. 80 quid or so on top of the estate agent/solicitors fees of around £8k is small change really.

It is fairly unusual for a buyer's solicitor to actually want copies of the service records but perhaps he is just trying to be careful or just new to the job.

Apparently, when we put the house up for sale, we filled in a TA6 form stating that the boiler was installed in 2017 and last serviced in 2025. I included a copy of the gas safe installation certificate but their solicitor is just asking for proof of the service. No big deal but can anyone answer my initial question?

yes its perfectly ok and legal what he is doing and putting on the certificates .
Usually they only ask for gassafe certificate for boiler installation and last service but there is an indeminity you can buy for likes of heating /double glazing that might be cheaper than getting it serviced

It could be a mate of his and as long as it's showing as valid then it shouldn't be a problem. A mate who works with me in social housing has his own registration too.

I “replied” to this the other day but it hasn’t posted.

Thinking about it, if I got say, British Gas round to service my boiler, I assume that the engineer will use the BG registration and not his own?
