Harmony

I'm interested to know more about your point here. I can see how the standard for colour coding changes risk, and therefore there are safety issues, but I'm not getting what you mean by a technical decision.

Take this scenario. “Mr Softus, I want to harmonise all of the cable colours in the EU so I’m going to task you with deciding what the new colours should be”. I would assume you would carry out some research across Europe to find out what colours are being used at the moment, are these colours suitable and if not what are the best colours to use.

If that had been done I doubt if you would have selected brown black grey & blue as your first choice. They are hard to distinguish between in low light and although I’m no expert in colour blindness black and brown seem very similar to me.

So as you said before it was a compromise which I feel was based on the number of countries that were already using the colours and not what colours are technically the best for the purpose.

I know . Let`s start a campaign to get our 10 volts back.

We could call it VE day (Voltage in Europe day)

I've put together a team to lead the new campaign - made up of people representing most trades

I thought I saw 250 today, on an Economy 10 circuit, but it was wandering around and a second later showed 239. Probably just my cheap DVM...

Better than mine, my multimeter is ****ed, inists on reading ~70v  , and did have a point of saying ~ 300v once.

Must get a new one...

try changing the battery first, DMMs with low batteries often give very strange results.

No luck, plug, looking inside it, it appears to have had something split in it one stage... brownish yellow in colour, and I have a sneaking suspician that it might be ferric chloride, reckon the tracks are probably a right mess under the dial where the contacts are exposed... :(

A masterful explanation - one of such clarity that it makes me wonder how I ever misunderstood. Thank you :)

The last time I measured mine it was 247.

But I don't like to boast.

I knew if I waited long enough, I could out-do you, Ban!

Well, it's not what you've got, it's how you use it....
