How long does it take to train a pilot to do other roles, such as ground attack?

I have always thought that NATO would have needed to supply the air power element.
 
You don't think the Russians would attack any air combat missions?

My limited understanding is that we would also have needed to provide the best air defences, in order to push the enemy planes back. But overall it is something I couldn't get my head round. How do you wipe out the Russian air defences sufficiently to stop your own planes from getting shot down.
 
Why are you so keen for Ukraine to just give in to Russia ?

They are a sovereign country, but not in NATO, so we can only supply to help them defend themselves
