In England lots of landlords are now keeping one box room for themselves and renting to "lodgers".
If they do anything wrong they're out without notice and police will assist in removing them.

According to Shelter this only works if:

The landlord must live there as their only or principle home when the tenancy starts and during the tenancy without interruption.

Yes, late 80s or early 90s I suppose. Really odd character, did very well for himself though.

Yes, sounds right. I magine he is no stranger to porridge. Almost 80 now, so hopefully he's calmed down a bit.

You'd do that before it got to court stages. But if he is aiming to be housed by the council, this wont work

I doubt they are after being re housed. The council will see that as making their self homeless.

Or at least that’s how our local council would see it.

Most of the time people don’t have a plan, ignore it and cane afford to move. A little incentive at that stage can work.

Easily done: some post received at that address, some clothes, a pyjama in the unmade bed, a few things scattered about, a charger on the wall, a working tv and the game is on.
The police will not dispute the landlord word if it's his main residence or appears to be.

The point is that in that situation the tenant still has the full rights of an assured shorthold tenancy. The civil courts won't accept the landlord's transparent shenanigans if the tenant makes a claim for illegal eviction. And the landlord has committed a crime and could be prosecuted.

Some lady down this way rented her house for 2 years whilst she was abroad

Rent was paid uo
Front no issues

She returned to the UK and the tenants had vacated the property as agreed house was in reasonable nick all cleaned etc

Than she gets knocks on the door from blokes asking if Lolita etc was available

During the 2 years she had rented out the house had been turned into a knocking shop ( brothel)

Built himself a huge mansion in Uckfield, I think, with a built-in mausoleum but it never got finished. Is abandoned and rotting now. The geezer lives in Zimbabwe now apparently.

they tell then to call them on the day they are actually evicted. One less person to house today.
