High Rise Fire

No offence taken.

I still can't get around the thought that £10 million was spent, and it actually made a lot of people more unsafe than they would have been.

The cladding helped with insulation so lower running costs and made the tower block less of an eyesore. Personally I think we need less ungainly tower blocks - there is enough land in the UK

That's a sweeping statement.

Whilst it may be possible to hugely increase the population of England, there is also infrastructure and pollution to consider.

For countries with populations of around 50M or more, England is only surpassed, for population density, by S.Korea and Bangladesh.
England is more densely populated than India, Japan and other countries considered "packed".

Why did you choose to narrow your search so much?

Try harder. You are like Theresa desperately in search of any win even one that's only in your mind.

What is my agenda? Treating people like Humans? Sure I have had problem tenants the worst was an ex Army soldier - he left in the middle of the night owing me some rent but that's the risk of doing business. I could have tracked him down but then I met him whilst shopping, he was at the checkout and you know what I smiled at him. I don't know his personal circumstances and sure he lost me some money but if all you do is gripe at your losses and not your gains then you are a sad person.

I think you need an education

Can you explain this?

Not without revealing too much information on public forums, in short the LA threatened me with a CPO if I don't rent it out, as I claimed it was my second home, and it still is, but they wanted to classify it as long term empty so that they could rip me off with Double Council Tax.
So i moved a couple I knew and allowed them to occupy just one room rent free for two years just to get them off my back!
2 years Later on the LA still came back on me and wanted to know why I was not licensed landlord, i said I have a friendly couple living in there for free, I am not charging them rent, they are living free, only that they must pay for bills around £150.00 pm, to cover cost of their heating, electricity, water charges, and half of the council tax, they insisted that I get it licensed with 14 days or face prosecution! with a possibility of a £20,000.00 fine plus court costs on top!

They said paying for bills is considered as rent, then I replied so do you want me to keep them totally free then, even pay their food bills and buy them free shoes and clothes? Authoritarianism !

So I was forced to get it licensed and then start charging this couple proper rent £400 pm for the room including the bills, it is this couple I mentioned that the bloke now takes hot water bath every day causing so much condensation as he leaves the bath full of hot water for hours! I am now going to have to battle him out through courts!

Absolutely disgusting mate and a prime example of where legislation goes after the wrong person.

so it was your original intention to retain it as an investment property, depriving some other family of a home?

And you have put yourself through all this suffering just to avoid paying Second Home council tax?

Why did you choose to narrow your search so much?
Simply because, as you must really know but are as usual just being awkward, there are several city states which are more densely populated, as indeed are London and other cities.

However, that does not extrapolate, to a country already heavily populated.

You may like to live in Monaco, it is, I believe, nice, however, the same density in England would result in a population of:

2.4 BILLION.

Can you see the difference?

Nice is a city in France. It is close to Monaco. ;)

I would like to live in Monaco, or Nice.
I would like it if all my clothes were made by Balmain. I would like it if I went to Juan-le-Pins for my summer vacation.........
with my carefully designed topless swimsuit.......

Looking at the European population density charts, you can see that the UK is not strikingly high in population density.

You can also see that there is not a correlation between low density and prosperity or quality of life. The reverse, if anything.

C'mon old boy. Where do you stand on economics - trade, immigration, free market, education, nhs, public services. To start off you can pick one - I don't want you to get flustered.

John, no offence, but are you a communist?;)

If you buy something (anything), you deprive somebody else of it by default.

Take great care deciding on your next purchase!

Who said anything about increasing the population. We only use I believe about 6% of land for residential purposes, granted not all land is habitable but we are not short of expanding home building. What we have is large builders land banking and restricting building to maintain house prices.

no.

However, I am conscious that we are in a country where there are (illustrative estimates) a million homeless families, and a million empty homes.

If only there was some way they could be matched....
