High Rise Fire

How many of the residents were migrants?
How many of those migrants were reliant on the council for housing and clothing, etc?

Just because someone is a migrant does not automatically mean that they cannot support themselves!

From someone who does not want to pay tax, probably tries to avoid, or does not, pay any NI, refuses to pay for his TV licence and is heavily reliant on the NHS, this is a typical, heavily prejudiced comment!

You are another cockroach, just like Firedhand.
So if they can support themselves, why do they need a council flat?

Got more important things to do. How many were guarding Theresa in her worthless photo-op?

Have you thought that maybe she was there to gather accurate facts about the situation and the way it was managed directly from the people involved in dealing with the situation. Facts that can be used to improve the ongoing management both of the incident in progress and improve the planning of responses to future incidents.

Corbyn on the other hand used it as a good photo opportunity to put the blame on the Conservatives. Hugs a few relatives and repeats their valid concerns as proof of his opinion that the Conservatives should be ousted from power.

appropriate vetting should take place, but how does the publishing of the names of those survivors in hospital prevent that?

It doesn't prevent vetting. It just increases the number of bogus claims from people with misguided and sometimes criminal intent that have to be vetted.

"Hello, I'd like to report that my brother, his wife and two daughters are missing. They lived in Grenfell house. Flat x. Descriptions are (. .........)"

"Sorry mate, no idea if we've got any survivors or bodies matching that description. No lists.

Don't bother leaving your number, if anyone turns up we won't bother contacting you."

Nope, no excuses from Bernard.

"Eighteen people remain in hospital, nine in critical care."

Wow, just think how difficult it must be to match missing-person reports to eighteen people! Nine of whom are probably talking!

I can well understand it would exceed Bernard's abilities.

And while she was there, why not go and meet, console, explain what she was intending to do?
In the same situation, a normal person would realise that fluffy words and a hug from the PM are of no use to me, what is of use to me is knowing that the PM has spoken to the professionals on site so that what they report can be included in future planning, the mistakes can be not repeated for future constructions and errors already made can be put right in the future... Hugging people fixes nothing

I'm sure Theresa will be the first to explain that she has no responsibility for fire safety, or building regulations, or firefighter resources, or police numbers, or local authority spending, or disaster planning.

it was only after resident representatives had battled to meet her in Downing Street that she asserted that there would be £5500 per family so they could put themselves back on their feet.

I hear some of them are getting £10 a day, and have been put in hotels that provide only breakfast. It will be a while before they can move on from a toothbrush, tampons, comb and shampoo, and start buying socks and underwear.

Meanwhile heaps of donations lie unattended in the council offices.

There were people who thought that their gifts of children's clothes toys and babies' bottles would help parents lucky enough to still have living children. Instead they were heaped up and abandoned in the council garage. Not even sorted.

I'm sure Bernard can explain that this is perfectly acceptable.

So it is a cost-cutting exercise?

No, not cost cutting.... it is primarily a child / vulnerable adult protection measure.

Nope, no excuses from Bernard.

No excuses necessary for a conversation made up by a person who obviously has no experience of what actually happens in a casualty reporting centre ( aka Casualty Bureau ).

Do you know the ratio of genuine missing person reports to bogus reports ?. There are sick minded people who will phone and claim they are related to a person who was visiting Mr and Mrs Smith in flat X ( having read a leaked casualty list that stated Mr and Mrs Smith Flat X were found deceased ) and they haven't heard from that person si
nce the fire. That requires a further search of flat 333 for human remains that may have been missed in the first search while the building was still on fire.

I can well understand it would exceed Bernard's abilities.

I can well understand your point of view knowing how un-informed you are.

Meanwhile heaps of donations lie unattended in the council offices.

Surplus to requirement, people rushed to the church carrying large quantities of bottled water, the church has a water tap that can supply fresh water. Someone with some knowledge dod re-direct some of that water to the emergency services were it was needed.

John try reading facts and ignore the media and remove your anti establishment goggles.

Yep, certainly a superhuman task. I wonder how many weeks it would take? No doubt Bernard can make an estimate. I wonder if you'd leave unaccompanied children until last?

If you spend money you don't have, and you have to borrow more at increased interest putting you further into debt, what happens when you have no money to feed yourself..

Hawk. I think you have been drinking the Tory kool Aid. Government finances are not personal finances. The issue of money - well we can tax the oligarchs, end PFI, cut tax loopholes for non doms - there's your money.
