Evening,

I've got Alto AL5180 downlighters. Can't see how the hell I can change the bulbs on these things! I've tried to force it a bit with a screwdriver but no luck. There are no springs! Any ideas/ techniques I should use to get the blinking bulb out? Surely I dont need to buy the whole thing again!

Can you see that white strip running around the edge with a gap in it?
That is a retaining ring. By placing your thumb/finger on the lower edge you can GENTLY ease the upper edge away with a small screwdriver and then pull it clear. This will allow the bulb to be removed. Refitting is simply sliding one edge into the groove and sliding the rest round till it snaps into place.

If it doesn't have a retaining ring, then you need to twist the bulb anticlockwise. the lamp connector is fixed to the base of the can.

Those fittings usually come with a rubber sucker to stick to the lamp to help you twist. They soon get lost.

You need to press firmly but carefully on the lamp face with something that will grip the glass and turn, the lamp will then come loose and drop out.

Thats a GU10 with no retaining ring - you need to turn it anticlockwise while applying steady forward pressure to the glass.

Some GU10 lamps have small blobs around the rib to help grip.

d1ynovice,
have you sorted this yet?

Just curious for some feedback.
