Hi,

I've bought a ceiling light from ikea which only has a neutral and live connection, however the one I'm replacing and current connection also has an earth wire?

Is it possible to go ahead with connecting only the live and neutral? What do I do with the earth?

Any help appreciated. Many thanks, Phil

It's likely double insulated look for the square in square symbol.

The earth should be in green yellow sleeve, pull the sleeve off bend the earth in half and then put the sleeve back on. That gives it great insulation from contact with any other wires, and allows the next replacement lamp the option of an earth.

If an earth is on a cable, even if it isn't used- never ever cut it off or back so much it can't be used in the future.

Some light fittings will have a three way terminal block, live neutral and a place to park the earth wire even if not used.
