Hi guys,

Did some work above our spare bedroom window over Christmas, and used some flashband. Rather stupidly, left the roll on a table and forgot about it.

My GF has been cleaning today and lifted it up to reveal a large black circle on the table where the flashband had been sat!

It's a pine table with a lacquered finish.

Would anyone have any tips on how to remove the black stain? I assume it's bituminous.

Thank you.

Try WD 40 and a soft cloth that may work and not damage the lacquer,

Other than that Polycell Brush Cleaner will remove it, but it may damage the table finish.

Thank you, I'll try the wd40 :)

I was considering nail varnish remover but think that will also damage the lacquer

Do not under any circumstances use petrol indoors.

I would not use diesel either.

A flat roofer I know recommends using white spirits and it works and is gonna be less aggressive and certainly less oily than diesel. A small bottle will cost you ten bob from Wilkos.

Failing all the above its a strip and re-lacquer job.

That will teach you to be more careful. :D

Don't worry. All of us married men have been in trouble at one time or another!
