immigrants in prison.

Apart from the infrastructure what about the size of this tiny island.
One state in the USA , Wyoming, is larger than the whole of this country and has a population equivalent to the size of the city of Manchester, 500,000.
The population density of the USA is around 32 per square kilometer, but the UK is around 246.
If for no other reason, common sense should tell us that we are overcrowded now.

What REALLY makes me laugh is that the people arguing against the death penalty in the interests of humanity are the same as those advocating no more immigration ... Bunch of hypocrites.

In that case, Meggawatt, you will be in favour of allowing anyone in the whole world to settle here. Is that correct? If so - where are you going to put them all?
If not - YOU are a hypocrite.
You really can't win a trick can you?

The USA is particularly undensely populated but, like us, is unevenly distributed.

We are one of the more densely poulated countries in Europe, though roughly comparable to Germany (232 / km^2). However, our population density is low compared to Belgium (341) and The Netherlands (392), neither of which strike me as being particularly low on space.

Even countries with vast ammounts of wide-open space like India (336) or China (636) are much more densely populated.

Our main probably here is all the silly buggers crowding into the South-East, rather than overcrowding in general.

Don't worry John. As immigration continues apace there'll be overcrowding all over the land.

BTW - just what is the big plus for the UK in filling up the country with foreigners? Does it put money in your pocket?

The most sensible thing I've read up to now in this topic.

There's no overcrowding at all where I live, nor is there an immigration problem ... When J90 and co talk about England they ain't referring to huge chunks of it and are instead referring to the densely populated areas such as London, Manchester, Birmingham etc.

The US has absolutley the same problem on a much larger scale ... Take a walk through Manhattan and compare it to Oaklahoma city (as one example).

The problem is not as clear cut as the xenophobes would have us believe.

Execute all the lifers, build less prisons, more space for immigrant plumbers ... Simple. ;)

We are overcrowded with the infrastructure that we've got. Build more prisons, roads, houses, hospitals, schools etc - but why bother? We've got 60 million inhabitants as it is. We have 12 times the population density as the USA - so let them go there.

Their is no welfare state to support them in America or their families back home. :(
Thats why they come here instead. ;)
In any case the yanks have a much more stringent immigration policy in place.

EU immigrants have as much right to come here as we have to go there.

Come and live in Devon if it bothers you guys ... No problem down here and we've got gas, electric, broadband and an airport ... Which, to be fair, is more of a bus station than an airport but hey who's complaining ...

But ... NO immigration problems (other than the odd cornishman attempting to cross the border into England without their passport)
