Are you suggesting there is something untrue in what I said?

Norway is a rich oil economy, as you know.

Switzerland has the advantage of being able to keep money deposited in its banks by gangsters, dictators and refugees who for one reason or another don't live to collect it.

The UK has a very large and profitable services sector and makes a lot of money from being in the single market and selling financial services in conformance with EU regulations and obeying EU laws. There are also some car factories, such as foreign-owned Mini, foreign-owned Ford, foreign-owned Jaguar, foreign-owned Toyota, foreign-owned Peugeot and foreign-owned Rolls-Royce. They all find it cheap and easy to export their goods into Europe because they are made inside the EU Single Market. There is no shortage of other countries with educated workforces, inside the EU, eager to accept any future investment. As for Spending Power and Size of Economy, we will not find any market capable of substituting for the EU. Don't make the mistake of thinking that the 10% they export to us outweighs the 40% we export to them. Who needs whom?

As you know, the UK is one of the largest EU nations, which is why it has a strong voice in the conference room and the voting chamber, which enable it to guide regulations to our advantage. Both of which it will lose if it resigns.
No. I'm asking you a question...

Spin and slant are hardly unknown in newspapers, but the front page of Wednesday’s Sun subjected the truth to such aggressive editing as to give a completely upside-down impression of what was going on in financial markets.

The behaviour of the Sun was certainly shameful.

What was the name of that paper in the Hillsborough scandal?

There is no way a responsible government would have organised a referendum with all the chaos and costs involved unless they had considered the risks of a remain or leave vote.
I get the impression the government offered a referendum with the firm belief that the majority of joe public would vote to remain . The "success " of the leave campaigne has them rattled and polls are showing an even ish split or a slight advantage to the leave side. While polls are pretty much not worth the paper they're written down on , an event split or a majority of only a couple of percent one way or other is more than likely to cause all sorts of constitutional problems.

Dave offered the referendum as a sop to the vociferous anti-Europe wing of his party, hoping that it would be enough to secure him an outright win at his last general election.

It worked and he now has the difficult task of convincing his anti-Europe voters that he is anti-Europe, and his pro-Europe voters that he is pro-Europe.

He also tries to convince bankers that he's pro banks, fishermen that he's pro fish, conservationists that he's pro-conservation, and pigs that he's a pig-lover. He's really desperate to be a vote-winner. Unfortunately, although there are enough Old Etonian millionaires to fill his cabinet, he needs some of us plebs to keep his lot in jobs.

Remember though that he already handed in his resignation, effective the end of this parliament, so he's not the one that will have to try to dig the country out of his mess.

Cameron and his strategist Osborne decided it was the best way to deal with Nigel.

The Tories were concerned that they would lose seats to UKIP and they thought it would also silence the Europe wing of their party.

In their arrogance, they thought that the plebs could be herded like sheep to vote their way at the polling stations.

As I said previously, they knew it worked in 1975 and they thought that project fear would work again regardless of the cost to the country.

This referendum has been nothing but a sham and it would not surprise me if the vote were fixed because they are now that desperate.

They lit the fuse and now they cannot put it out.

Apart from the costs involved with holding the referendum itself what about the costs to the reputation of the country.

If their scheme does backfire on them and we end up leaving then some good may come of it, otherwise what a pointless waste.

Strange, I can't post a new thread but can reply to posts. Tells me I have insufficient privileges?

Anyway, thought this was funny.

A pretty little girl named Suzy was sitting on the pavement infront of her home. Next to her was a basket containing a number of tinycreatures and in her hand was a sign announcing FREE KITTENS.
Suddenly a line of big cars pulled up beside her. Out of the lead car stepped a grinning man.

Hi there little girl, I’m the leader of the Conservative Party, David Cameron.

What do you have in the basket? he asked.

Kittens, little Suzy said.

How old are they? asked Mr Cameron.

Suzy replied, They're so young, their eyes aren't even open yet.

And what kind of kittens are they?

They're REMAIN IN EU SUPPORTERS, answered Suzy with a sweet smile.

Mr Cameron was delighted, a golden opportunity beckoned.

As soon as he returned to his car, he called his PR chief and told him about the little girl and the kittens. Recognizing the perfect photo op, the three of them agreed that they should return the next day and in front of the assembled media, have the girl talk about her discerning kittens.

So the next day, Suzy was again on the pavement with her basket of FREE KITTENS, when Cameron’s motorcade pulled up, this time followed by vans from BBC, ITV, Channels 4, Channels 5, CNN and Sky News, cameras and audio equipment were quickly set up, then Cameron got out of his limo and walked over to little Suzy.

Hello, again, he said, I’d love it if you would tell all my friends out there what kind of kittens you're giving away.

Yes sir, Suzy said. They’re BREXIT supporters.

Taken by surprise, David Cameron stammered,But…but…yesterday, you told me they were REMAIN IN EU SUPPORTERS.

Little Suzy smiled and said, I know. But today, they have their eyes open.

Despite the title of his article, the Brexit argument is largely based on Fear. Fear of Foreigners. Fear that they are somehow all evil aliens who are colluding to do down brave John Bull. Fear that Britain is the only decent and honest nation in the world. In fact, of course, the EU is composed of developed nations all trying to work together and do their best.

Interesting to see him mention the tiny number of occasions when UK has voted on the "losing" side, but not the vastly greater number of occasions when UK has been on the "winning" side.

He avoided telling us what those losing votes were.

Listen to this, starting at 02.12

Then try and tell me it is a good argument

The sad truth is that Brexit cannot reach those that have a slave mentality.

The sad fact is that truth cannot reach those who have a visceral fear and distrust of foreigners.

Since 1999, UK did get outvoted 56 times. But it was on the winning side 2,466 times. 2,466 to 56 is a pretty good score.

"It is very hard to find an EU regulation of significance that has been forced on an unwilling British minister who voted against it’ (Remain)"

Indeed so, and they are at their most comfortable when bathing in the torrent of lies and distortions that spew from the Sun, the Mail and the Express.
