hello chaps, hope all is well wherever you are tonight!
was bored so thought i'd wack on a pic
was called out today to install a few downlighters, this is the incoming supply to the house, lady asked me if it looked in order, my response was 'yes'. I think it lives up to todays required standards!!!
Apart from the multitude of cobwebs, and the lack of a DP Isolation Switch that is!! The query I had was that after this juncture, the meter leads run a complete distance of 5m before they reach the CU. Isn't the max distance 3m by code? or with 3m (+) runs, implementation of a second 100A isolation switch??

The distance of the cable which a cutout fuse is allowed to protect is set by the distribution network operator (DNO).

aaaaaaah....
I'd better call SElectric tmrw (not that I look forward to it) to verify this setup is ok then.

Birdsh*t galore Steve! Forgot to mention it! Beats me mate

What is that MCB (Proteus?) on the live tail out rated at? Thats your current limit on the long tails.

Was that suppled by the DNO - looks like its got one of their sticky warning labels on it...??

They are SP iso's.

Norweb did a similar thing with many of their TN-C-S installs by using a DP iso but only employing the live side. There was no neutral connection to the DP switch.

It is not always a requirement to isolate the neutral in a DB.

Just established, Benville and Marsh are responsible for this. They added the SP isolator or had the DNO add it when called by customer a few years ago to relocate a CU. I was dubious about the meter tail lengths at first, but having heard who is responsible for this, I rest my case...(although It could be worthwhile checking with the DNO anyway...u never know ey?)

So that's 5m of tails with no service fuse to protect them

yup, indeed, 5m with no protection whatsoever.
True to my word, I shall check the safety of this setup by calling SElectric tmrw, as much as it pi**es me off to do so!!
