to what extent do you think that cutting help to people suffering famine, war, or invasion, in their own countries, will reduce the number of refugees?

The money saved would build how many care homes in this country?

You mean you want a central government ministry to run it.

Where will the money come from to buy or build state care homes?
your question has been answered.

The options are increase taxing people to fund the status quo with 35% margins
disrupt the market and save everyone money, except the PE backed care home owners.

Too difficult a question for highwayman to attempt an answer.

Hey JD how about you make a constructive comment for once instead of carping captiously about everyone else's comments?
You're turning into a troll.

Yes we know that if social care is to be provided anything like the way the NHS is, it's going to need a major new source of money.
Sure, some of the comments are not accounted for but sneering criticism doesn't help.
The big cost number is of the order of 10bn a year, growing at 10% a year recently.
Self-funders are less than half the number of people but pay about 50% to the homes.
When down to the projected 0.3% of GDP, foreign aid of all types, will account for about 9bn pa, 2.4bn of which goes to refugees in the UK. So not very much to be gleaned there. Most of the cuts have gone to defence/Ukraine.
Total UK income tax/cgt/NI add up to around 500bn.

What do you suggest?

This is OFF TOPIC for an investment thread.

post#480 is where the topic of care homes was introduced - can you guess who posted it?

Discussing what you need to invest in order to fund the rest of your life's costs is not off topic. Care costs are something few can budget for.

This was a thread where people were playing nice. Perhaps it's not one for you?

anyway - back on topic. Today looks like a buying day, though I wont be trying to catch the knife.
