Hello all,
I changed my name from 'sparky40' as it could have been misleading !
Anyways, even though there are no 'rcbo's' JD  , (I know how much you lot like your foto's).
Outdated it may be, but looked like it was a good job done initially. http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o21/Steve39Reading/Electrical/2.jpg

I am new to posting pic's so please be patient. The photo's I asked my mates customer to send me were massive !!!!! ( i had to get a new monitor, and I dont mean lizzard )
Cheers All

I have seen something very similar before(and I am not an electrician), check (VERY CAREFULLY) for the following:

- Is the house early 50s?
- Does it have a radial system for sockets?
- Is the black unit on the right in the picture a switch and does it have live AND neutral fuses inside it?
- Are the fuses on the cream box and the brown box to its left live and neutral?
- Is the brown box at the top the original CU - and does it have live and neutral fuses?

I would bet on the lighting cirrcuits not being earthed at all and there being perished rubber insulation wherever the wires get hot!

We got ours torn out in 1990 - and the neighbours didn't understand why we were re-wiring.

Almost certainly not safe and possibly grounds for the REC to disconnect.

The installation definately looks old, the original installation looks as though it was good when it was installed, but standards move on and by todays standards this would not be allowed!! As you are aware there is no RCD for a socket circuit reasonably expected to supply portable equipment outdoors. There also doesn't appear to be any eq. bonding. Another thing to be cautious of is there may be asbestos flash pads in the old fuse holders.

picture 2.jpg seems to have disappeared, but i can see picture 3.jpg. It must be safe 'cos the DNO have fitted a shiny new Talexus meter.

Loving the wooden fuse boxes

Ugh! I think I spy fused Neutrals! Very dangerous!
