Isolationism, an increasing desire?

What, wage stagnation and the wealth divide increasing to levels we couldn't even have dreamed of.

OK.
wealth divide is highest in the UK and USA compared to pretty much any other major Western economy
so the problem is not globalisation, the problem is the politics of UK and USA

poor Filly hasnt twigged his devoted right wing free market liberalism he has spent his life voting for has caused the problems, instead Filly blames globalisation

poor Filly is going to vote for Reform whose policies are to increase the wealth divide

you cant make up this level of cognitive dissonance

Yes, incredible that the ones who moan most about the wealth divide also cheer on globalisation which has made it much worse.

But that's liberals for you.
says ReganAnd Carter who wants to move to mainland Europe

I hate globalisation he says..........whilst doing it himself :ROFLMAO:

The Tories were addicted to importing foreign labour.
Didn't Rishi Sunak allow in almost 1 million immigrants from the Far East in a single year.
Even Blair couldn't match that score.

We got addicted to cheap everything, something they might now try to rein back on however I wonder if it's too little too late.

If you go back about 30 years ago, maybe longer, standards of living/wages etc were quite high. Western leaders decided to appoint China the worlds factory, at a loss of jobs in the west. This was offset by the promise of cheaper goods and high earning high skilled jobs at home. Everybody would have more money and a much higher standard of living. It didn't happen, company profits rose exponentially as did the wealth of the company owners.
It wasn't that many years ago that various billionaires attending Davos brought up the subject of whether globalisation could be dialled back, simply because they were becoming concerned about the possibility of civil unrest.
Of course no attempt was ever made to dial back globalisation.

Until Trump came along.

You really do spout the most utter drivel.

U.K. has seen wealth inequality grow massively over the last 40 years….because of endless privatisation with successive govts making policy based on what wealthy donors want.

The standard of living in many European countries is way higher than the U.K.

Globalisation brings its problems, but it’s not the main cause at all.

The hilarious thing is people like Filly fully support parties / leaders who increase wealth inequality.

Jeez Filly thinks Trump actually will make peoples lives better. He isn’t and wont

I hope he will, I don't know for certain that he will. It will take a while, he has to make a difference before 2 years is up otherwise he'll lose the midterms and it's game over for him.
He will bring back some manufacturing to the US and he will maintain tariffs particularly on countries that undermine the US.

I'll bet you a pound to a pinch of s**t that we and the rest of Europe will be following his lead before long.

G7 was great wasn't it. 6 countries demanding a ceasefire in Iran before making a joint statement that Israel has the right to defend itself. It proved that what 'we' and the other members of the G7 apart from the US are largely irrelevant. The US, China and Russia are the relevant players.

What is to stop anyone today from opening a factory in the UK or America to manufacture flip flops, frying pans, tea towels, screw drivers, hammers, sunglasses, shirts, shoes, socks, televisions radios ect.ect.
There is no need to wait until manufacturing returns from abroad, so why haven't factories sprung up everywhere across the country, could it be because it doesn't make economic sense to manufacture goods which you can import for half the price they would cost to manufacture domestically.

When European car manufacturers producing in USA moved production to Mexico, what would the cost saving have been. 30%?, 40%?, 50%?.

After shifting production to Mexico, how much did the price of a European cars manufactured in Mexico drop by.

I'll give you a clue, **** all is the answer.

it doesn't make economic sense to manufacture goods which you can import for half the price they would cost to manufacture domestically.

The consumer is paying the same price, the manufacturer is making double the profit. (see above)

I believe humans are pack animals.

So like wolves, we stick together in our known group and snarl at other packs

Maybe not quite, but we are descended from people who had to look after their compound of huts, their village, and so on, for mutual benefit.

FIght and flight are base instincts. We worry about outsiders, "other" people. Are you racist? No? Well how would you like to be the only white, or black, household in the street?
It's innate - inbred.
You know you can get a Pavlovian response from dogs - you ring a bell and feed them. Before long, you ring the bell and they salivate.
The surprise is, that that response is passed on to puppies, even though it was never "taught" during the puppy's gestation or life. It's in the Epi Dna

We do know to some extent how it works, It's not IN the dna but AROUND the DNA. It's Epigenetic. Look up
Transgenerational epigenetic inheritance. You should find yourself in histones and nucleosomes.
Interesting stuff. It's about how particular parts of the DNA are hidden or exposed, in simple terms.
They go to affect behaviour. Life-threatening things have the stongests impact. Like Wars..

The way the bit of DNA. I'll imprecisely call a genotype, is EXPRESSED is subject to environmental conditions. So you can have identical twins with different automatic behaviours. Its alterability is referred to as phenotypic plasticity.
Also, if you move a herd of antelope from South Africa (yellow sand) to Namibia (Red Sand), within their lifetime, their pelt reddens - for camo. And the colouring is strongly shown in the offspring.

I degress - but yes we're designed and programmed to look after our family/clan/tribe/village/country, because we survive better that way.
And has been like that, a long time.
