laptop cant enter bios

cheers thanks mark i thought i was alone on this problem the other night so gave up asking and just got on with it . i still dont understand fully but even though the exsisting hard drive was booting into windows but really slow and drive checked ok still stopped at "Setup is inspecting Hardware"when i inserted xp cd . any way i had a spare hard drive which some one told me was faulty plugged it in and inserted cd re booted and wow it got past set up screen and installed new copy . and it runs so much faster and boots faster , so it must have been some files of some sort on hard drive stopping it or lack of files . so it wasnt memory softus or the cd . any way thanks mark i thought id post back for you to see .

How about your hard drive was simply full. No space to put the install files.
No, we are not talking a couple of meg either.

So now you have a copy of windows with no specific drivers and illegal licence (based on the info you gave).

Have fun

Have you tried activating it yet?

Have you finished installing all the old applications yet?

Have you restored all the personal settings that would have been retained if you'd simply fixed the original problem?
