Led polarity

We often change emergency inverters and there supplied with a new led charge indicater, this comes with a ORANGE and a PINK wire, usually on the inverters its marked P and O so easy.
However the ones being supplied soon will have + and - on.
i seem to recall a new led has one leg shorter than another, but as these have been cut and soldered thats not obvious.
Googling suggests using a multimeter and i believe JohnW once told me this too, so i quess i can try that.
Is there a reason for pink and orange wire and if so is there a standard used for whats + or -

A flat on the body (base) of the LED or the larger electrode if you can view the inards indicates the cathode (-)

There light green and i think you can see inside , so will check tomorrow, thanks
