I have an 1883 Victorian Mid terrace property in East London.

I need to make a 750mm wide opening, 1.7m to the left of the current door opening.

I planned to use two strongboys & props to support the wall, and then insert 2x 65mmx100mm concrete lintels for each skin however I wasn't sure if this is enough support? It looks like the inner skin carries all of the load, unless the skins are bonded?

Any help with this will be greatly appreaciated.

Support Location: 1st floor, rear of main house entering outrigger extension. Under the loft valley junction.
Wall: Solid wall, 2 skins, no cavity, 230mm thick.
Opening Size: 750mm wide x 2m tall.
Overhang on each side: 150mm.
Load: Loft floor joist and roof rafters. These both run perpindicular to the wall and sit on inner skin only. Approx 7/8 courses of brick.

Thank you.

Thanks for getting back to me. Is a structural engineer able to calculate the loads and support strength required prior to building control?

I just want to see if it will be safe before going down that route.

Couple of concrete lintels will be fine,100m high I expect. Speak to Building Control and tell them that's what you're proposing, if they have half a brain they will nod and agree, if they are an ass they might ask for some SE number crunching.

It's not 100% clear from your half a plan but ensure you're retaining a safe means of escape from your new bedroom.

Think you need building control for that as you are creating a opening in a load bearing wall.
They will advise
Thank you very much for this!

So would a 100mm x 65mm lintel be ok (wide side down)?

Or would you think a 100mm x 140mm would be required?

Each brick is 100mm wide.

Unless you've got a point load over the opening (which does not appear to be the case), 65x100 will be 100% fine. The rafters won't be carrying much load due to the presence of the outrigger.
