lost deposit on holidays

my friend has cancelled the holiday she had booked next summer
the holiday was in jamaica in june

she had made several instalments totaling £800 from a £3.500 holiday
the travel agent [first choice ] says she can only have £50 back as a good will gesture
my thought are this is not a fair amount as with holding £750 would not be a reasonable and fair amount and would = an unfair term in the contract

Instead of asking a diy site.. your friend should be asking someone that knows or could answer...

what I meant was take £50 and loose the money or not take anything leave as is then at a later date if things improve the money is still there as is the holiday on further payment or maybe to a different cheaper holiday or transfer to another person

I can't imagine the Travel Agent being too happy to give money away at a later date, I would think it is best to sort it out for now and then book a separate holiday if the finance becomes available.

i have poster here money saving expert and ultimate handyman

would post on the law forum but thats a bit hit and miss[often no replies]

i find you get more ideas from more people with more life experiences you often get alternative angle

If they are only prepared to refund you £50, then you may as well hang fire and transfer all the money to another holiday. You have probably paid almost enough for a couple of you to go to Greece or its Isles. It would be a shame to forfeit so much hard earnt money.
