I get a clicking noise from my Ideal Classic when it is trying to fire up sometimes. It goes on for as long as we can put up with it, before we switch it off and on again. It then lights instantly every time. Other than this it works perfectly.
It probably does it four or five times in a day, but I think something needs replacing before it becomes permanent. Any suggestions as to cause and cost of remedy.
Many thanks in advance.

Ian.

Could be gas related, especially if you mean it is clicking merrily away but not lighting?

I would recommend a RGI to give it a good service first.

Dirty pilot the flame then doesnt rectify properly so keeps clicking and main solenoid doesnt ope.

this will be the problem, pilot nozzle clogs all the time. would take an RGI no more than an hour.

best of luck

Thanks. I probably didn't explain myself but the pilot light is alight and the fan is working when it clicks. When I switch it off and straight back on again on the front, the pilot light goes out for a second, relights, wait for a couple of seconds then the main burners come on after the first spark. The clicking sound, seems different from a spark click, if that makes any sense at all??? When it clicks it does it about 5 times in a second .
Love the ar*e ho*e analogy

Could be main solenoid on gas valve sticking or relay on pcb !
