How many variations are out there ?

As of this week I now have three vehicles and they are all different,

My wifes car has what I always believe is the best, Push away for full beam, pull back towards for Dip.

My van you just keep clicking towards the steering to alternate between Full & Dip, I have got used to it but it's not the best, if you are on dip and another car comes you can make a mistake and accidentally go back to full beam.

But now have another van and on this one you have to keep clicking away from the steering to alternate between Dip & Full. (the complete opposite of my other van)

Why can't stuff like this be standardised? at least they are all on the left of the steering, I have had them on the right and would sometimes washed the windows when trying to Dip, and many years ago I remember a wagon with the button on the floor next to the clutch (that was a right laugh)

My deep apologies to all I have dazzled this week

My Yeti, pull for full, pull for dip
My Bipper, push for full, pull for dip
‘Er HRV.....Does it for you, sees a light and automatically dips. Also, shrieks if you cross a white line, shrieks if a cyclist is near, puts the hazard flashers on if you emergency brake :(
Wont move unless the seat belts are secured and probably wipes your ass if you want.
John :)

My golf is pull for full, push for dip left side, no surprise, what does Mrs Burnerman's car do if you take your seatbelt off as you're driving?

All hell breaks loose alarm wise, then if you come to a stop the brakes come on and won’t release until you’ve put the belt back on.....you also have to have some throttle applied before you’re allowed to move off

what happens if you lift your bum off the seat before uncoupling the seat belt - how does it cope if the driver has abandoned ship ?

have you got that the right way round? German vehicles are usually push for main, pull back for dip, PSA group is usually the repetitive click back to alternate between dip & Main. It is my vauxhall van that has this repetitive click away to alternate between dip and main that has completely thrown me.

As for these smart lights that do it all for you - great stuff but I have heard them priced at £900 a side! owning a modern vehicle outside its warranty is becoming an unwelcome financial liability - the obsession with stupid overly designed cars will be the downfall of many.

Correct, got it the wrong way round!
Not sure about the other, never tried it but I'm pretty sure you need to be sitting with the belt on for the brakes to release.
John :)

Yes I certainly do remember the floor dip/main button & bemoan it's demise.
My '98 BMW & '87 Range Rover have the push (main) / pull (dip) so no confusion ;)
