Makita saw sparking

My old Makita saw is sparking when you power it up to cut. I removed the carbon brushes they seem ok. But lots of sparking when I spin it up is it the commutator or? Also note it only one side the rear or right hand brush as you can see isn't sparking at all.

a lot of videos where brushes look OK - but need changing - not sure on Makita , but quite a few on festool that stop working brushes look fine - and not that much smaller and then new brushes fixed

Shorted turns on the armature seems likely. Nothing much you can do, other that buy a new one, but likely to cost as much as a new machine.
