Migrant channel crossing deal.

why would the French be interested in stopping migrants leaving?

if there were thousands of migrants in UK trying to get on boats to go to France would you be wanting UK govt to stop them leaving?
Exactly ;)

This, combined with the UK government being utterly clueless (or intentionally avoiding) as to how to implement a proper solution, means the boats will continue for the foreseeable.

Maybe Keir's a secret Reform fan? Maybe he wants to see them gain power in 2029? He's certainly doing everything he can to persuade people to have a look at them.

I'm going to say this again. If France genuinely wanted to help the UK, and if the UK was in agreement, surely the answer is to have the relevant French shorelines and waters just off the shore literally swarming with border patrol bods
It costs a lot of money to do that. Similarly, the UK does not have the capacity to patrol its southern coast for the same practical and financial reason.
Bods that can render the dinghies unusable from shore or in shallow waters
They already are doing this.
But noooooo, for whatever reason simple solutions aren't allowed
Nonsense.

Don't be daft. Of course they can - 90%+ of these boats are intercepted.

All are detectable by Radar, they aren't exactly fast moving.

But what happens if somehow (however unlikely) Farage does manage to stop the boats. People will find that it doesn't actually make them any happier. We will still have all the underlying problems.

what to spend the 15Bn saved on?

It's more like £5bn. But even if it was £15bn, it's not going to make people happy. Even if that money was spent domestically. At the moment it comes out of the foreign aid budget in any event. There is huge existential unrest throughout most of the West. You are being far too parochial.

Yeah, you're right. Feck it, let 1000 arrive illegally each day. Heck, 10,000, why not. Come one come all.

£6.4 billion - is just the cost for accommodation.
We then have enforcement, payment to the French, the impact on public services, legal bills etc. etc. its huge.

Try paddling around the US border fence between Mexico and California and see what happens to you.
We should treat any illegals in boats just the same way as US CBP do:
  • Area is monitored 24/7
  • Any migrants trying it are detained
  • Processed for removal/deportation
  • Banned from future legal entry
Like Poland you mean? Where will we put the fence?

It still won't make people happy. Just like Brexit didn't. Something much, much bigger is going on. There is so much unhappiness and unrest across most of the West.
