It appears that, for whatever reason, one can buy 'empty' Masterseal enclosures- so presumably nothing to remove. However, goodness knows what (if anything) would fit into them! They are MK specific, unlikely any other socket would fit into the enclosure, assuming you can even remove the one that's in there.

Thanks for the replies. Is this likely to be a compatibility thing across all manufacturers? Found this https://www.screwfix.com/p/contactu...r-1-gang-enclosure-170mm-x-86mm-x-155mm/271rr which I could pair with a single smart socket.
I can use the current MK one elsewhere.
Yeah I have a wired outdoor access point so no problem there!Yes fairly likely, for a perfect fit.
If Contactum do a smart socket, that would probably be fine. Also need to be sure your WiFi will work where the socket is outside, and that your router is transmitting at 2.4GHz
Thanks. Yeah it was more a "learning" question really than anything else. Both can be true. It will work fine outdoors, protected from the weather. And they would void your warranty if they knew it was used in those conditions and it broke. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.
I would say they are just normal sockets; they certainly look like it.I have a follow up question: are the actual sockets themselves that come bundled with these IP66 enclosures specific variants for outdoor use? Or in the MK case are they just a normal ("internal") Logic Plus socket pre-mounted in the outdoor-proof enclosure?

how easy/tricky was that? The MK MS Plus range have the sockets riveted (or similar) on.Just standard sockets - I got a good deal on an MK un-switched double IP66 one, and just replaced the inner socket with a switched version from my stock.

Easy, the plastic lug with the metal discs hold them in, release the top two and the socket falls out, theres three ways eitherhow easy/tricky was that? The MK MS Plus range have the sockets riveted (or similar) on.
