who do you think was the best, :) or should we have categories say John Wyane in war or westens 8) Harrison Ford for adventure ,Margaret Rutherford for murder, give us a clue

funny thing about John Wayne, he was in heaps of war films playing various kinds of hard-bitten soldier or war hero, but he was a draft-dodger who although being called up several times in WW2, always managed to find an excuse for not going. This did his career in films a lot of good, because almost all the other fit young men actors went, leaving lots of vacancies.

Marlon Brando as the Godfather takes my vote.

so the duke was not as tough as he looked :) like a lot more of the stars

Does anyone remember Richard Green? (Robin Hood). He was about to hit the big time in Hollywood when the war broke out but decide his country needed him. He joined the army and was promoted up to the rank of Captain.
After the war his chance had gone and things had moved on.
He was the same in real life as he was in Robin Hood.

Ronald Reagan was an up-and-coming movie actor in early WW2, unlike john wayne he joined up, on his return a few years later it was not so easy to get good film work so he had to take up a second-best job in the entertainment business.

robert de niro is world class, but i do agree with the marlon brando vote.

and one that people wont mention is brad pitt, very good at his job.

unlike John Wayne, Audie Murphy was a decorated WWII hero and starred in movies.

he won the highest medal for bravery AND starred in many hollywood films.

from wikipedia, i never knew that, good on the fella!

Audie Leon Murphy (June 20, 1924 – May 28, 1971) [2] was an American soldier in World War II, who later became an actor, appearing in 44 American films.[2]He also found success as a country music composer.

"In 27 months of combat action, Murphy became the most decorated United States combat soldier of World War II, and United States military history. He received the Medal of Honor, the U.S. military's highest award for valor, along with 32 additional U.S. medals, five from France, and one from Belgium.

Murphy had a successful movie career, including the extremely popular To Hell and Back (1955), based on his memoir of the same name (1949), and starred in 33 Hollywood Westerns. He died in a plane crash in 1971 and was interred, with full military honors, in Arlington National Cemetery (his is the second most-visited gravesite, after President John F. Kennedy)."
