Moving socket in garage upwards

So I've mused on this. Which is better, moving the plug up, or plugging an extension cable in, tacking the cable to my workbench with the extension cable firmly attached to my bench and just and leaving the inaccessible socket switched on with the extension plunged in?

That seems a nice easy solution, but just checking...

Moving the plug up won't do anything unless you move the socket it is plugged into as well.
