Heat the joint, take the lamp away and feed in the solder, reapply heat when necessary. That ensures the solder is drawn into the joint by capillary action.
Most of the U tube clips (and those idiots on the recent BBC3 plumbing competition) feed in the solder whilst the flame is on the joint. Often the solder will only melt around the end of the fitting...there is no guarantee it is drawn into the joint. I have seen several joint failures...they initially look ok but no solder is drawn in.
