Hi folks

Looking for a 17" laptop that could be used for gaming but I don't have the budget...

Seen this one:
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/compu...ire-e5-773-17-3-laptop-grey-10137674-pdt.html

I know with gaming laptops the most important thing is the graphics set-up.

The recommendations are:

Nvidia 8/900 series graphics

Skylake i3 6100(no suffix)

Full HD screen

8 GB min of memory

How does the one above compare performance wise?

Cheers.

We recently bought our eldest a MacBook air (John Lewis, Brum). Bomb proof and a good bit of kit according to my geeky Bro' in law. We've had cheap laptops before and they don't last.

If it must be a laptop your best bet is scan.co.uk. https://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/laptops-ultrabooks/gaming-laptops in terms of value for money my instinct would be to avoid a retailer like PC world because any retailer with shop fronts will be adding on their mark up for profits/overheads. If you buy online you effectively cut out that middle man so it's always going to be cheaper. I've always used scan and can vouch for them.

Thanks, HE, I'm there already!

If it doesn't need to be a laptop go for the desktop option. I built my first custom rig in 2008 and it was only until 2014 I upgraded the mother board and graphics card. I've never considered a laptop for gaming because for what you get it's more of a gimmick option for people with a lot of disposable income, certainly nice to have if you can afford it, and if you can afford it you may as well be prepared to go the full grand. Whichever laptop you got for you'll get a good 3 years out of it, but it's going to have half the life of a decent desktop £ for £. If you're prepared to accept that, then no qualms.
